🦋 Upcycling is usually referred to as the process of transforming unwanted products into new materials or products perceived one of greater quality. It is a traditional form of recycling where items can be repurposed at the supposed end of their life, for instance, to look for ideas on how to use an old piece of garments again to ensure we get the most out of the materials.

 

♻️ Recycling is the process when unwanted items are transformed from their current form into a new product. Recyclable material is often readjusted, altered, melted, and broken down.

 

Unlike upcycling, breaking down materials in a recycling system is energy and emissions-intensive and reinforces the societal norm that says an item can be disposable after one use.

 

Upcycling is usually considered a much more appealing and sustainable option.
