  • The Ultimate Holiday Decluttering Guide: Your Life & Mind

With Christmas coming around the corner and the end of the year fast approaching, are you thinking about things to declutter? As the holidays come trickling into our homes, you know what else comes with it? CLUTTER. Many people feel stressed, disoriented, unclean, and emotional because of all the clutter around them. Decluttering this time of year can help you change your mindset for the better. Declutter your life Use the Four-Box method to declutter your home, office, car, and surroundings to help you organize them more quickly and in regulation. 1. Trash – for disposing items 2. Recycle – for recycling, instead of trashing items 3. Donate – for giving away items 4. Keep or relocate – for putting items back where they belong When you can’t decide what to leave in and out of your home, you can ask yourself, will I use it again? Is it worth the space it takes up in my home to keep it? For the items you only use once a year, or for short periods, our best advice is to store them away first to make space for decorations used more frequently. Label each container so that you can easily find what you are looking for and keep things in order year after year. Clearing your wardrobe The holiday season is the perfect time to start working on a minimalist wardrobe. These are just a few reasons why it’s worth it: 1. You no longer have to dig through items you don’t wear 2. When all your clothes are your best, you feel good no matter what you put on. 3. When you are satisfied with your wardrobe, you do less shopping so you can spend your time and cash on more important things. The hardest part is choosing what to keep. Simply ask yourself, what did you not wear this year in Spring, Summer, and Fall? Determine which items you may have saved all year for winter but you still do not end up using. For clothes that have not been touched for years, instead of holding on to it forever, be realistic that this piece doesn’t have a place in your capsule wardrobe. Give it a new lease of life (and relinquish any feelings of guilt you might have) by giving these preloved items to friends or family, selling them online, or taking them to a local charity shop. For older and worn-out textiles, you can always recycle them at community stations, or you may upcycle them. There are plenty of youtube videos about how to repurpose old t-shirts into bags, dresses, and even shoes. Take something you don’t use and make it into something you do. Online Decluttering Do you feel like your phone is a cluttered mess? Do you have apps on your phone you don’t even remember downloading and aren’t sure what they even do? Delete unused apps and hide less frequently used apps. You can also organize folders by usage. Create folders for your most frequently used apps and your less frequently used apps. Move those less-used folders to another screen to declutter your phone and make it accessible. Another huge source of phone clutter is photos. Narrow down your images. Delete duplicates and bursts. Keep only the best of the best. Then move your pictures to a photo storage service. You can declutter your notebook the same way. Clear your mind Clear your mind is ultimately important. We are overloaded with social media content and constantly consumed with overbooked schedules. It's often these days for us to feel anxious, sometimes even depressed. If you always feel overwhelmed, you need to examine how these thoughts negatively impact your lifestyle closely. It is the best time to clear your mind to return to who you are at the core. Go outside and be active every single day; even if it's five minutes outside in the sun, it changes your input. Try to consume something different, read a book or listen to a podcast; there are many incredible podcasts. Do you have any tips and tricks? Share your advice in the comment below.

  • 6 Simple Tips to Avoid Holiday Overspending

The holiday season is a time for gathering, generosity, and gift-giving. Still, when you dive into your holiday shopping, it can be hard to shower your loved ones with affection while staying on budget, from decorations to gifts and meal planning to party clothes. Before you know it, you've spent far more than you initially expected. Upcoming holidays, it's easy to spend more than you anticipated without a clear-cut plan of action, which leads to financial stress and strain on you as the season is over, you have to pay the money back. The holidays aren't about showing love or gratitude for someone by putting yourself in a challenging financial situation. To ensure that you don't spend outside of your limits and still have a great holiday season, here are the six essential tips you can do to avoid overspending on holiday. Set an overall budget We often equate seasonal sales and discounts with getting great deals; everything looks like a bargain. But if you do not need that, in turn, it encourages you to spend more. The key is not to get caught up in that trap and only purchase items you need. Estimate how much you're going to spend on gifts for others and subtract bills and other necessities. And then, set an overall budget and ask yourself how much you can reasonably afford to pay in this holiday season. Easier said than done, right? Well, having a tight budget that leaves no room for more may be hard to stick to, but sticking to a budget is a surefire way to avoid overspending during the holiday shopping season. It works and will pay off in the long run. Make a shopping list Before you go to the store or start shopping online for anything holiday-related, make a shopping list, including gifts, food, groceries, decorations, travel expenses, etc. Thinking about what you need and writing out a list can ensure your purchases are purposeful and not wasteful. "Wait 24 hours before clicking 'check out to give yourself a cooling-off period," ask yourself whether you really need it or you want it. Think about your previous impulse purchases that end up unused, and taking more of your storage space might deter you from impulse buying. Start your holiday shopping early Start early! If you waited until the last minute to buy gifts and stress of scrambling to buy gifts at the last minute. You won't have time to shop for the best price, you might have to pay more for speedy shipping, and you'll be too frazzled to enjoy the experience. It would help if you allocated time to lovingly select the right gift for each person per your budget. The holiday shopping season seems to start earlier and earlier each year. In 2021, there's a laundry list of problems plaguing the retail sector right now (labor shortages, lack of inventory, eager consumers ready to spend, etc.). Secure your holiday shopping list as early as you can to avoid the stress. Keep Your Receipts Keep track of your holiday spending for your loved ones and yourself. Ensure you always know exactly how much you've spent for a person and in total, that you don't go over your budget. Also, you can have a better picture of where you stand in your holiday season budget. You can use it as a reference for next year. This way, you will know that which is beyond the budget range and avoid it. Be careful with credit Studies have pointed out that credit card payment is a senseless payment, which will make you spend a lot of money unknowingly. So please try to avoid paying for gifts with credit cards unless you have a plan and a budget to pay the bill. It will help you maintain your long-term financial goals. Start a monthly savings habit for next year Every year it seems that the holidays creep up on us. But they always occur at the same time every year, which makes them just about the easiest thing to plan for. We always wish we did it last year, so why don't you start doing it this coming year? So no harm in leaving a little money in your budget for a fun purchase each month. Maybe save 10% or more of your income; you can attribute whatever is left to gifts plus whatever you kept specifically for gifts previously. The holidays are a time for joy, which means for yourself and those you love. Take care of yourself. It's the best gift you can give those who love you.

  • Turning Black Friday 2021 Green

Black Friday is a controversial subject, and never more so than this year. The heavy discounting and marketing that many brands feel pressured to adopt at this time of year encourages panicked hyper-consumption, with many people buying products they don’t need just only for discounts. Generating enormous volumes of waste as items are returned or contributing to a culture of disposal. Discount isn’t a real “deal” if we’re buying too much or buying things we don’t need. It only results in impulsive purchases and waste. We are a proponent of only buying what you need when you need it. But if you were looking to make your holiday gift greener this year. Intentionally purchase ethical clothing or eco-friendly gifts; these sale days can be an excellent opportunity to support conscious brands more affordably. • Love your fabrics In a Sustainable way

In our article “Sustainable ways to take care of our clothes,” we discussed our best caring practices for our clothing. We should be conscious of washing our clothes as less frequently as possible, but we understand if the clothes are dirty and smelly, we need to keep them clean otherwise, we might never wear them. This time, we will share the tips for cleaning and caring for some of today’s most popular clothing fabrics. Cotton 100% cotton is a natural fiber, which gives it the soft, breathable qualities we love. It also means that it is more susceptible to shrinking unless the fabric has r processed. If the care label says “Coldwater only,” it is a hint that your oversize cotton shirt might convert itself into a school uniform for your little ones if not washed correctly. Preshrunk cotton items may be washed in warm or cold water, depending on the color of the garment and the care label recommendations. In general, cold water washing can preserve the color and the shape of your cotton pieces without a hassle. When you take out your cotton items from the washing machine, shake them out and make them into the shape you want to wear them in before you hand them on the rack for air-drying. This way, you will minimize the look of wrinkles in your clothing. If the item does wrinkle, you can iron it with low-temperature steaming. Do not tumble dry your cotton garments to avoid shrinkage. Wool Wool is naturally stain-resistant, odor-resistant, and crease-resistance. It means it doesn't require frequent washing to keep wool garments fresh. Unless there is a visible stain, wool garments can be washed as infrequently as one to two times a season. After each wear, simply air your wool garments by letting them hang in a circular area overnight to keep them fresh. It requires fewer washes thorough the garment's lifecycle. It has a considerably low impact on the environment than other types of fabrics. Unlike most fabrics we are discussing, wool won't shrink when washed in high temperatures. On the contrary, wash and rinse in cold water can cause shrinkage when it comes to wool. But the combination of heat and movement may cause wool to shrink, always wash on a wool cycle when machine washing. In washing wool garments, only use a laundry detergent free of enzymes, labeled for delicate wash detergent or wool and silk detergent. An enzyme-based detergent might destroy the protein in the wool. Silk Silk garments are very delicate. Always refer to the fabric care label for the best caring instructions. The safest way to wash fine silk garments at home is to wash them by hand. If the fabric care label tells you to dry clean it or to avoid machine washing, it is best to wash the garment by hand. Hand washing silk needs to be gentle with cold water mixed with enzyme-free detergent. Mild baby shampoo without conditioning could be a good alternative for hand-washable silk fabrics. Do not tumble dry silk garments. It is best to use a towel to absorb the moisture on the silk garment and then hang it to dry. If you must use an iron, make sure it is at the lowest possible temperature. Blended textiles Blended fabrics are usually very durable and easy to care for. The most important thing is to watch out for the natural fibers (if any) in the items. If it contains cotton, wool, or silk, treat it as completely made of this fabric to protect it best. Again, the best is to follow the caring instructions on the label. Man-made textiles Man-made textiles, such as polyester can be washed at medium temperature in the washing machine, but check the care labels first! Tumble dry polyester garments on low heat. To prevent wrinkles, remove them from the dryer while they are still slightly damp. If ironing is required, use a low heat, as some polyester might melt under the heat of a hot iron. Leather If necessary, clean the leather with a mix of warm water and dish soap and dip a soft cloth with the solution to wipe the leather garment. A mixture of vinegar and water at a one-to-one ratio is an alternative for removing stain from leather products. But don't forget to wipe off any residual of the cleaning solution and dry the garments with a towel. Keep your leather garments dry and fresh helps to prevent mildew. Avoid direct sunlight for color fading. Again, the golden rule is to follow the garment care labels for caring instructions! We hope that these guidelines will extend the life of your beloved wardrobe while reducing its environmental impact!

  • Best Caring Tips for your Wardrobe

We always recommend building a sustainable closet by buying sustainable brands and collections and giving pre-loved items a second chance. Is that all we can do? not! Ultimately, having a sustainable wardrobe means making the most out of what you own. As a consumer, the best thing we can do is take good care of the clothes we own to make them last longer. It reduces the need to buy more and saves us a lot of time and money; it reduces demand for the earth’s resources and wastes output. By extending the average lifespan of our garments from 2.2 years by three months of use per item, we can reduce carbon, water, and waste footprints by 5-10%, according to Wrap. The fashion revolution calculated that 25% of the carbon footprint of clothes comes from the way we care for them! Therefore, we would love to share our best clothing care practice with you, hoping to help you reduce the overall impact on the planet and help you make your favourite garment more durable and last longer. How often should we wash our clothes? Before we throw our clothes into a washing machine, we need to ask ourselves, “Do we really need to wash it?” We agree this will differ for everyone. It depends on how you wear your clothes, how much you have sweated, and the materials of the garments, among other things. Of course, we are not asking you to wear dirty, sweaty, smelly clothes; we just have to be conscious and wear an outfit more than once before washing them. Wear the clothes a few times more before washing them will keep our favorite clothes longer and reduce energy and water use. Be conscious of washing your clothes as less frequently as possible, and be aware that the more you wash them, the more quality they lose. How to wash them? If you do. Machine washing can sometimes be rough and can potentially damage your clothes. Imagine what your clothes go through every time they are tossed in the washing machine. If we wash them too often, they are likely to lose their shapes and colors, then they might end up in our trash. On the other hand, washing machine is indeed the biggest contributor to water waste in the laundry process. On an average cycle, washing machines use approximately 50 liters of water per wash. Not to mention the release of toxic chemicals from detergents and softeners, causing microplastic pollution that could harm our ocean. Clothes obviously need to be washed if they smell or if there is a visible stain. Handwashing with a minimal amount of detergents is a sustainable option if washing cannot be avoided. Choose the right detergent. Organic soap is a sustainable option. Organic laundry soaps are usually plastic-free and do not contain artificial dyes, synergic fragrances, or harsh chemicals. We should also avoid choosing detergents that contain phthalates, phosphates, and non-biodegradable surfactants that make your washing harmful for your skin and the water released. For delicate garments such as wool, cashmere, or silk, ensure that your detergent does not contain enzymes when washing them. Enzymes attack these natural fibers, causing fabric damage over time. How to dry your clothes? If possible, always air-dry your clothes! Tumble drying consumes a lot of energy to run and can damage certain fibers. Frequent use of the dryer can cause fabrics to shrink and elastics to break down. The more gentle way is to air dry your clothes on a clothing liner or a rack. And if you dry your clothes the right way, you may save time and effort from ironing them. Shake out the garments after you take them out from the washing machine, and make them into the shape you want to wear them in before you hand them on the rack for air-drying. This way, you will minimize the look of wrinkles in your clothing. Reduce dry cleaning. Dry cleaning is a highly intensive chemical process that negatively impacts the textile fibers, the consumers’ skin, and the planet. In the process, dry cleaners use toxic chemical solvents that can stick to the clothing. Most cleaners use perchloroethylene, also known as tetrachloroethylene, PCE, or perc, etc.; if we inhale these substances, even low concentrations of perc cause respiratory and eye irritation, headache, dizziness, and vision problems. Last but not lease, Understand the care label Care labels are there for a reason, but they might not always be getting our attention. The care label will guide you through the best laundry options for your clothes, according to the property of the garment materials. Check for soft tags inside the clothes-there may be a series of different symbols on them. These shapes indicate the optimal washing temperature and usage cycle, as well as any other precautions you should take. Don't ignore the care labels! There are a series of potential outcomes from not following care instructions. Shrinkage and discoloration are a few that often occur if our garments are not washed at the right temperature or for a suitable duration. To get as much wear as possible, you would need to take good care of your clothes. But it is not worth it to the garment and our planet.

  • 3 Questions That Will Help You Avoid the Single's Day (11.11) Hype

Singles' Day is a holiday celebrated in China on November 11. Single people commemorate the occasion by treating themselves to gifts and presents.  Despite the original purpose of the day, Singles' Day, also known as the Double 11, has become the largest online shopping day in the world. We want to help you avoid the hype and embrace ethical consumerism this year and every year! Starting from the online promotional activities held on November 11, 2009, this year is the tenth year that "Double Eleven" has become the Chinese shopping spree. In 2020, Alibaba registered $74.1 billion worth of sales across its online platforms on Singles' Day, representing nearly double the $38.4 billion of revenues generated the previous year. The name Double Eleven has many negative connotations. For example, crazy shoppers will put lot of items they don't really need into their shopping carts, and they will stay up late for the start of the shopping spree by midnight of Double Eleven. Overwhelmed express delivery and overdrawn credit card bills highlight the ugly side of the festival. It is particularly disheartening when you consider that a large proportion of new clothing purchased worldwide soon makes its way to landfill. Globally, 80% of discarded textiles are doomed for landfill or incineration after an average of only 7 wears. According to the city's Environmental Protection Department, in Hong Kong, more than 340 tonnes of textile waste is dumped each day into the city's overflowing landfills. In fact, consumers are purchasing (and wasting) fives times as much clothing as they did 25 years ago! It's so easy and human to feel some major FOMO when you're surrounded by messages claiming that you need to take advantage of these amazing deals on items that will improve your life. Give yourself the gift of taking a moment to shift from unconscious to conscious consumer. Before you reach for your wallet, ask yourself these three questions: 1. How much do I already own? 2. How many times will I wear it? 3. How long will it last? After careful consideration, you may find that you don't really need any new stuff after all. If you do still want to buy new, empower yourself to make ethical choices. Resisting the impulse to buy loads of cheap items in favor of investing in quality pieces makes your look more streamlined and reduces the amount you consume and spend overall. Even a gorgeously tailored little black dress isn't worth much to you if you already have 5 just like it. A $10 t-shirt is no bargain if it's worn out after a few washes. And those jeans on sale aren't worth $30 if you'll wear them just twice before consigning them to the back of your closet. Make sure to choose something from a brand having a positive impact on the planet and its inhabitants. You can use the free Beyond Nice directory for fashion and accessories brands that we have chosen for you, based on their impact on labor, environment, and animals. It is beneficial for those of us who can have trouble affording new ethical fashion! Some brands recognize the damage of events like Single's Day on conscious consumerism and go out of their way to fight against the tide. Here is a selection of eco-initiatives worth supporting: Cosmos Cosmos Studio is a conscious fashion brand founded in Hong Kong. They made the Tee by combining recycled polyester from used plastic bottles and viscose.0 Wastewater、Cruety-Free. THE R COLLECTIVE The R Collective is a social impact business, born in 2017, to eliminate fashion waste by reusing, repurposing, and recycling textile waste. It's donating 25% of our profits to Redress. RÓU SO Róu So is a Hong Kong-based contemporary fashion brand with a radical commitment to sustainability. They design comfortable, effortless, and chic silhouettes for women of all shapes and sizes using up/recycled and natural fiber fabrics. RETYKLE Retykle is a new and second-hand children's clothing trading platform. Promote the development of eco-friendly fashion by buying and selling quality baby, children, and maternity clothing. WAYS OUT It is a local social enterprise that upgrades home kitchen waste into jewelry. In addition to raising the public's awareness of Hong Kong's food waste issues through creativity and popularizing sustainable lifestyles, it also provides opportunities and meaning to underprivileged females in Hong Kong. LANE EIGHT Lono Wear, a Hong Kong athletic footwear brand. From materials selection (all plant-based) to production method (zero waste tree knit). The brand partners with Tree-Nation, by planting one tree per every pair sold, to fight and raise awareness of climate change. GnL Accessories GnL Accessories, a PETA-approved handbag brand from Hong Kong. They use cruelty-free natural materials, including coffee grounds, cork and teak leaves in their products. An ethical fashion brand that constantly builds on our experiences in innovative sustainable fashion and fair-trade practices while taking you on a journey of luxurious yet eco-friendly fashion.

  • Benefits of Minimalist Fashion Less is More

When it comes to living a fulfilling life, we have long been told that less is more. By surrounding ourselves with the things that matter, we own fewer material objects but more satisfaction. This minimalist approach to life allows us to appreciate what we have and declutter the things that serve no purpose. We believe this particular approach applies to the world of fashion. We are not asking you to empty your wardrobe or to sell all of your luxury items. We are, however, suggesting that fashion doesn’t have to be complicated. We would like to share with you how far a few staple items can take you. Benefits Of Minimal Wardrobe Let's dive deeper into how minimalism in fashion is the way forward. 1. Greater Creativity When creating a striking look that consists of fewer items, you are inspired to be more creative with what you pair and coordinate. It's surprising what a piece of statement accessories or choice of shoes can do to an ordinary everyday outfit. It inspires you to fully "utilize" every piece in your wardrobe when you have less to work with. Something that you consider boring may only need a flick of minimalist touch to become a staple item! 2. Less Visual Clutter We always hear that diamond is forever. To me, it is not only for the value of a diamond but also for its elegance and versatility. I could imagine myself wearing the same simple pendant to different occasions and wearing the same pair of stud earrings for years. I am not suggesting every girl should wear diamonds, but if you find a high-quality piece of jewelry that never goes out of style and that complements an array of different tones, you’ll be good to go for decades. When looking to create a minimalist look, the last thing you want is to look ‘cluttered’ from wearing too many accessories. It is more beneficial to have one statement piece rather than several different counterparts. 3. Simple Decisions Have you ever noticed that successful people like Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and former President Barak Obama wear the same thing every day? Besides creating their signature look as well as the brand of their business, they understand there is a finite capacity of brainpower to make well-thought-out decisions. The decision about what to wear can be a source of stress and consumption of our brain capacity on a daily basis. Yet when adopting minimalism as the basis to your style, you can eliminate this stress from your life and reserve your brainpower to make fewer but more important decisions for what really matters to you. Selecting clothes to wear each day and for each occasion becomes much less stressful and more intuitive. 4. Smart Investments One of the essences of a minimalist wardrobe is to shop less but shop better. You can spend more time searching and more money on high-quality classic and exclusive pieces than buying ten five-dollar t-shirts. This way, you can invest in some timeless statement pieces from the world’s top labels. One way to make smart investments is to shop at a local luxury fashion boutique that can cater to your every need. These luxury boutiques keep minimalism at the heart of what they do, meaning you will have no trouble finding exquisite pieces created by reputable designers. 5. Stand Out Surprisingly enough, adopting a minimalist style may make you stand out more from the crowd. Whether it's in the professional field or your social life, your minimalist style will be something worth mentioning. People naturally make assumptions based on styling sense, which will do wonders for your social status and confidence. Don't forget to dress to impress! 6. Healthy Mind You are what you wear! It tells a lot about you from how you dress; it also does a lot to determine how you feel. We all know that we feel at our best when we have the benefit of confidence. With minimalist fashion, you feel lighter and look brighter; you may find yourself feeling happier and more fulfilled. That is the power of minimalist fashion.
